Easy Minute to Win It Games for School
I use Minute to Win It games for kids at school for end of the year fun but they are perfect to use as a reward, a celebration, a brain break, or anytime that everyone needs a good laugh! It is probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen and I look forward to these activities more than the kids!
You can play the game just like the TV show or you can play them how you want! In my case, I divide my class into teams of 4-5 but I let them pick their teammates. Each team gets to play every game; however, most games are individual games so they have to decide which teammate plays for each round.
Each team takes turns to do the task in 1 minute. If the team finishes the game in the minute, they get a fixed point as follows: 1st place (fastest) = 3 points; 2nd place = 2 points; 3rd place = 1 point. If they don't complete the task, they don't get a point. Then I add the total points at the end of the game and award prizes to the winners. I love playing this way because every team gets to play every game!
The following games are the perfect great to play in your classroom and can be implemented with very few supplies! These games are challenging enough for the older kids and adults, but still simple enough that the younger children could play as well.
Minute To Win It Games for Kids at School
Suck It Up!
Materials:
- M&Ms
- drinking straws
- 2 bowls/plates
How to Play
The player transfers as many M&Ms as he can from one bowl to another in another table using a straw. Only one hand may be used to hold the straw. If a candy falls of a straw or out of a bowl, it is out of play.
I immediately follow this game withSpoon Feedingwhere the player holds a spoon in his mouth and scoops as many M&Ms as he can from one bowl to another. Players can't use their hands in this game.
This Blows
Materials
- 1 balloon per player
- 10-15 plastic cups
- a long table
How to Play
The player inflates a standard balloon, then release the air in a controlled fashion to blow 15 cups off a table. The balloon can be blown up as many times as necessary to accomplish this task. The fastest team to finish this task gets the points.
Stack Attack
Materials
- 21-36 plastic cups
How to Play
The player stacks the cups into a pyramid shape starting with 6 (if you use 21 cups) or 8 (if you use 36 cups) at the bottom. In my experience with 6th and 8th graders, 21 cups is challenging enough and most players barely make the pyramid in one minute. For scoring purposes, I give points to the fastest team to make the pyramid. If you think your students are great at this game, you can ask them to get all the cups back into a single stack within the 60-second time limit.
Face the Cookie
Materials
- 1 cookie per player
How to Play
Players must move a cookie from their forehead to their mouths using only their facial muscles. The fastest player that successfully eats the cookie within 60 seconds wins.
Defying Gravity
Materials
- 3 inflated balloons
How to Play
This game is more difficult than it sounds. Player releases all 3 balloons into the air and must keep all the balloons off the ground for 60 seconds using any part of their body. If a balloon pops or touches the floor, the game is over. Since no one can actually hold the balloon on air for 1 minute, give points to the player who keeps the balloons floating the longest.
